In this article I created a simple website checklists for plumbers.
You see.. fancy web design is not everything. You need a website that turns visitors into phone calls.
Most homeowners who visit a plumbing website are dealing with an urgent problem. They’re not looking to admire your design. They’re looking for someone they can trust to solve their issue.. and very quickly.
Here’s a simple checklist to see if your website is doing great – or if it’s costing you jobs.
1. A Phone Number That’s Impossible to Miss
Your phone number should be visible at the top of every page – preferably in the top menu.
Don’t make visitors search for it. If someone has a burst pipe, they’re not going to spend two minutes hunting for your contact details. They’ll just continue to another website.
2. A Clear Call-to-Action
Every page should answer one question:
“What should I do next?”
Use buttons like:
- Call Now
- Request a Quote
- Book a Service
Make the next step obvious. Make it easy for users to do action you want them to do.
3. Mobile-Friendly Design
Most people search on mobile.
Think about your typical customer. They discover a leak, clogged drain, or broken water heater and immediately pull out their phone. They’re not sitting at a desk comparing ten different plumbing companies.
Studies show that more than half of local searches now happen on mobile devices. In other words, the majority of your potential customers are viewing your website on a phone.
A mobile-friendly plumbing website should make it incredibly easy for someone to call you within seconds of landing on the page.
4. Fast Loading Speed
A slow website costs plumbing companies leads every single day.
When someone has an urgent plumbing problem, patience is limited. They want answers immediately. If your website takes several seconds to load, many visitors will simply leave before seeing your services.
Google research has repeatedly shown that website complexity and slower load times reduce conversions. In simple terms: the slower the website, the fewer enquiries you’ll receive.
That’s why we aim for websites that load under 1-2 seconds.
Fast websites provide several advantages:
- Better user experience
- Higher conversion rates
- Lower bounce rates
- Better performance in search results
Many plumbing websites are overloaded with large images, unnecessary animations, and bloated plugins. The result is a site that looks impressive but performs poorly.
If you already have website for your plumbing business, try to run it through PageSpeed Insights and see how it goes. If it’s more than 2,5 seconds, you have lots of room to improve.
5. Real Customer Reviews
Reviews build trust faster than anything you can write about yourself.
Feature your best Google reviews prominently throughout the website.
Social proof helps homeowners feel confident about calling you.
6. Photos of Real Work and Your Team
Stock photos look generic.
Real photos show visitors that you’re a legitimate local business.
Include:
- Team photos
- Service vehicles
- Completed projects
- Before-and-after examples
7. Dedicated Service Pages
One of the biggest mistakes plumbing companies make is putting every service on a single page. You’ll often see a “Services” page that briefly mentions:
- Drain cleaning
- Water heater repair
- Leak detection
- Emergency plumbing
- Sewer repair
all on the same URL.
The problem?
Google has a harder time understanding exactly what you’re trying to rank for, and potential customers don’t get detailed answers about the service they need. Also, you’re loosing on low competition keywords that you could potentially rank for in your area.
Instead, create a dedicated page for each major service.
For example:
- /emergency-plumber
- /drain-cleaning
- /water-heater-repair
- /leak-detection
- /sewer-line-repair
This allows you to explain each service in detail, answer common questions, showcase relevant reviews, and target the specific searches people are making.
It also creates more opportunities to appear in local search results.
Think of it like this. Keyword such as “Plumber in Florida” is much more competitive and more difficult to rank for. Easier keyword to rank for is definitely long tail keyword such as: “water heater repair Florida”.
For service-area businesses like plumbers, dedicated service and location pages remain one of the strongest foundations of local SEO when they contain genuinely useful, unique content. Generic pages with only the city name swapped rarely perform well long term.
8. Service Area Information
Clearly state where you work.
Many plumbing websites lose leads because visitors can’t tell whether their location is covered.
List your cities and service areas prominently.
9. Trust Signals
Customers want reassurance.
Include:
- Licensing information
- Insurance details
- Years in business
- Certifications
- Guarantees or warranties
Small trust signals can make a big difference.
10. A Simple Contact Form
Not everyone wants to call immediately.
Give visitors another way to reach you. Keep forms short and simple:
- Name
- Phone number
- Service needed
The more fields you add, the fewer enquiries you’ll receive. That’s just human nature.
Final Thoughts
Most plumbing websites don’t fail because they look bad. They fail because they make it difficult for visitors to trust the company and take action.
If your website checks all ten boxes above, you’re already ahead of many local competitors and you should definitely see results. And if it doesn’t, you’ve just found the easiest improvements to make.
